When should your gearbox bearings be changed?
Gearbox humming? A dull rolling noise coming from underneath the car, and therefore from the gearbox rather than from the wheels, means trouble in the medium term. But the end is inevitable. The rolling noise will get louder and louder, the play will increase until it becomes deafening. If it's the deck that's humming, it's more likely to be heard during high-speed steering. Again, this can last for some time. But the car is not very reliable. It is better to start replacing the bearings.
