Also called silentbloc, the engine mount is a part connected to the engine of your car without licence and sometimes to the gearbox. Its shape varies from one vehicle model and or brand to another. The same goes for the number of silentblocks. The engine mount is an essential part for your engine, it is the part that ensures that the engine does not shake very much. If it is defective, it can damage the engine of your car and especially the connected parts.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ENGINE MOUNT

As its name suggests, the engine mount, also known as the silentblock, is used to support the engine. It is also used to dampen the vibrations that can be encountered on the road and that cause the engine to run smoothly. In fact, the engine mount is essentially made of two materials, rubber which absorbs shocks and metal which supports the weight of the engine.

SYMPTOM OF A DEFECTIVE ENGINE MOUNT

The symptoms change depending on the level of wear of the engine mount(s). These symptoms can be vibrations and/or noises or knocking. In really extreme cases, the engine that is supposed to be supported by the silentblocks can fall out.

WHEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR ENGINE MOUNT?

It is important to change a silentblock in bad condition. Depending on where the engine mount is defective, the mechanic will change one engine mount or another. He will also advise you to change the other engine mounts even if they are in fairly good condition. It is recommended to change all engine mounts at the same time.
